Summer Reading Library

friends-of-the-library-2

A special Thank You to the Friends of the Library Group. They helped sponsor our Summer Reading Program. Not only did they help pay for the Performers that we had for the weekly shows, but they also paid for the pizza and drinks that everyone enjoyed after “Zay” Edwards put everyone through their paces on the dance floor. Once again we had a very successful Summer Reading Program. Hopefully you have already turned in your reading log. Our Summer Reading Program at the library has now closed. We would like to thank all of you who attended our weekly presentations at the Boys & Girls Club. I hope that everyone enjoyed the different entertainers. I think all the children and the adults got a great kick out of “Zay’s” Dance Class. We have plenty of books available all year long to read, not just for the Summer. We even have ebooks that you can download and read. For more information on the ebooks visit our ebook tab on the Homepage.
From all of the staff at Abbeville Memorial Library.

Summer Reading Log

Summer reading 2016

Just a reminder that the last day to turn in your Summer Reading Log will be Friday July 8th 2016. We will check your log to see that all the books are in your reading level. After all the logs are verified, we will contact the winners in each age group to stop by the library to pick up their prize. You still have a few days left to read a few more good books. Good Luck.

Summer Reading Program Update

Today for our Summer Reading Program we were entertained and amazed by Gary Ledbetter of Dynamite Magic & Balloons. Gary who is a Magician, really surprised the audience with some of the tricks. He, (along with some great help from children in the audience) thrilled and astonished everyone with a variety of magic tricks. Not only did he make things appear and disappear in front of our eyes, he even sawed a member of the audience in half. Yes, he really did. To finish his act and for a great ending to his show, he did the trick that all the kids enjoyed by producing a Rabbit out of his empty hat. After the show on the way out the door everyone had an opportunity to pet the rabbit. Prestidigitators really are cool.

On Thursday June 16th, Mark Seymour of Be-At Your Best entertained everyone who attended the ongoing Summer Reading Program being held by the Abbeville Memorial Library. During the show Mark played percussion instruments from all over the world, and kept the children’s attention with songs like: Catch The Reading Bug and The Alabama Song. He had lots of interaction with all of the audience, and had the children up on stage participating in the show. For his finale he had the gym rocking and rolling with everyone up on the floor dancing. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I know I did.

We started our 2016 Summer Reading Program Wednesday June 8th 2016 with a visit by some special animals (who brought along some very special people) Everyone was educated by the Big Bend Wildlife Sanctuary’s volunteers, who taught us a lot of important information on how to take care of an injured animal. You can go to our Photo Album and see more pictures and learn how to contact BBWS. They are a non-profit organization and accept donations.

Basic Computer Classes have started here at the Abbeville Memorial Library. Today (Tuesday May 24th 2016) we had two classes with eight people in each class. We have had over 40 people sign up so please bear with us in getting you lined up for a class. Summer is a busy time here at the library and we will be scheduling the classes as time permits. We will be contacting you as we start more classes. We held two more classes on Tuesday May 31st 2016, and we still have people signing up for the classes. Unfortunately we are having to postpone the classes due to other commitments at the library. We will keep everyone informed when we restart the classes (hopefully middle of July). The classes are being filled by your placement on the signup forms. if you are on the third page you will be on the later classes to start. Thank you for your patience.
