On Friday, June 6th, our Summer Reading Program 2014 started with a program presented by Keith Woods of Animal Tales, LLC. Kids and adults alike were introduced to 40 pound 11 week old Capybara (a rodent…yes..a big rat!), a Brazilian Salm… or Pink Bird-Eating Tarantula, an Ivory Billed Aracari (a toucan), a Giant African Bullfrog, a Burmese Python, and a Boa Constrictor! We would like to thank Keith for a great program. We also want to thank Abbeville Elementary Principal, Mrs. Barber, along with Henry County Schools Superintendent for allowing us to use the elementary gym for our Summer Reading Program presentations this year. We greatly appreciate all of the volunteers and parents coming out to help with our programs.
Friday, June 13th, was our second Summer Reading Program day for 2014. Mark Seymour’s Be At Your Best… Fizz Boom Read program was so much fun! Mark played various instruments (mostly percussion) for us. He also sang songs, played music,… and everyone danced, danced, danced! Mark’s program is an upbeat entertaining program with a positive message that everyone enjoyed. If you know someone that attended our program, ask about his famous Alabama Song! Mark wrote a song that lists the names of over 200 Alabama towns and cities….and he sang it for us! Wow! Kids and adults alike were listening to the fast paced song hoping to hear the names of our hometowns…and yes…we heard Abbeville loud and clear!
Wednesday, June 18th, Ms. LaToya from the McWane Science Center brought us FIZZ, BANG, …WOW!
Her new program, : Radical Reactions” allowed us to experience fizzing foam, colorful concoctions, combustions reactions (BOOM!), and changes in states of matter. These amazing reactions caused quite a bit of excitement!
Lee Andrews, ringmaster of Lew-E’s Educational Circus, performed on June 25th! Andrews entertained us all by juggling bowling pins and balls, spinning plates (while juggling!) and even forming a magic cloud! What a super fun way to wind up our 2014 Summer Reading Program!
